Make the sheet in five steps
- Take a suitable photo. Use even lighting and the real background required by your document. Keep head and shoulders visible. For a U.S. passport, preserve your appearance and use a white or off-white backdrop; do not replace the background digitally.
- Select 2×2 inches and 4×6 inches. Choose six photos, then use one photo with six copies or another arrangement available in the editor.
- Check each crop. Keep the head within your issuer’s requirements. A correctly sized box alone does not make a valid passport photo. The studio does not certify acceptance.
- Preview, then download. Check the watermarked layout free. Pay only when you want clean files. A 4×6 sheet at 300 DPI is 1200×1800 pixels; the PDF uses a 4×6 inch page.
- Print without resizing. For PDF use actual size or 100%. At a photo lab, order the matching 4×6 size and disable crop, zoom, borders and automatic enhancements. Measure the finished photos before cutting.
The ruler check that avoids a wasted print
Each square must measure 2 inches wide and 2 inches tall after printing. If it measures 1.9 inches, the output has been reduced by 5%: changing the crop will not fix the print scaling. Correct the print settings and reprint. If a lab trims or enlarges the file and cannot preserve the entire sheet, use another printing option.
Six 2×2 photos occupy all 24 square inches of a 4×6 sheet. There is no room for gaps. Use 5×7 paper or fewer photos if you need space for cutting.
Common questions
Is the photo maker free?
Editing and watermarked previews are free. Clean downloads require a $2.99, 24-hour session. Retail printing costs extra.
Can I upload the sheet to a retail printer?
Yes, if the retailer supports a full 4×6 photo print without automatic cropping or enlargement. Review its preview and final price. See printing instructions and independent retailer links.
Can I use a digitally changed background for a passport?
Do not use it when your issuer prohibits edits. U.S. and UK passport presets disable background and appearance changes. Read the photo-taking guide and check your issuer’s current rules.
What about online U.S. passport renewal?
That is a different workflow: use the unchanged original and follow the government upload instructions. Do not upload the six-photo print sheet to an online renewal form. Compare photo uses and formats.
Official requirements
The format calculations above describe this studio’s output, not government approval. Check U.S. passport photo instructions and your application’s specific requirements before ordering. This is an independent tool with no government or retailer affiliation.
