A LITTLE PREP. A BIG NEXT STEP.
Passport or visa. A professional profile. A school ID or wallet portrait. Crop it, choose the right size, and preview a digital file or print sheet—privately, on your device.
Take it at home. Save with ordinary photo prints ↗
For official documents, review the linked rules for recency, face position, expression and background. Profile, school and work photos can have different rules. This checklist is a visual aid, not an automated compliance check.

JPG, PNG and WebP; HEIC/HEIF only where your device can decode them. iPhone Photos may convert a selection. We preserve the exact file received, which may differ from the library asset. Use Browse / Files to select an unchanged original when needed.

Choose the matching paper size and print at 100% / actual size. Turn off “fit to page,” automatic cropping and photo enlargement. Ask a photo lab to preserve the full sheet.
Take a color photo within the last six months. Use even light, a plain white or off-white background, a neutral expression, open eyes and a clear view of your face. Remove glasses unless a documented medical exception applies. Do not use filters or change your appearance. Check the issuing authority’s current requirements.
U.S. printed applications: the printed photo is 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), with head height from chin to top of head between 1 and 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm). Our face guide is a framing aid, not a measurement or acceptance check.
U.S. online renewal: submit the original, unedited color photo and crop in the renewal portal. The official page lists JPG/JPEG, PNG, HEIC or HEIF and 54 KB–10 MB. Keep your unchanged source file. A generic 600 × 600 edited export is not presented as suitable for online renewal.

Usually you want the prepared photo above. Use this only when an application asks for the unedited image, such as U.S. passport online renewal. It saves the file exactly as selected, without cropping, resizing or background edits. It does not prepare a new photo.
Choose from Files / Browse to preserve the selected bytes, including HEIC/HEIF. A phone photo picker may already have converted a library image. Photos uploaded to the editor also have a Save source file button.
